This year the Swedish Nationals was arranged in Northern Sweden for the first time and a lot of drivers that normaly not drive National races was registrated for the race that had total 107 drivers. The track that was really long, 370 meters and not so hard to drive, but really hard to drive fast on.
At the first 15 minute we adjusted a new 5 port engine. We had planned to do it earlier in week but rain stopped all chances of driving. The track was flat and good and David made som 43 lap times and was 1.5 se faster than the rest.
Before the first timed practice, it started to rain alot. After the rain we waited for 1 hour more to let the track dry a bit. On this runs we adjusted one other engine to have a spared prepared if needed later in the race. After the three timed practice rounds David was in top and got start number one a thing he did not like so much as he was used to stand in the middle of this driving stand.
Qualification Round 1 David desired to go out on GridIron SS but it was no good as the car had little steering on the clay. He made two mistakes and it costed the TQ of the round by 0.1 sec Qualification Round 2 Now we changed to Impact SS to see if those was better and he was little quicker, we also tested to use a front cab body this run, but David did not like the car with this type of body on this track as the car felt instable. The run was good but a 5 sec mistake on last lap (again) cost the TQ
Qualification Round 3 This run was with the same setup as previous but wit the TKI3 body, and even if he got some traffic a couple of times, he kept good pace and won the third round. Qualification Round 4 He drove also with the same setup and this time we planned the refueling before the start to get free track and it payed off as David could make a perfekt run that was 8 seconds faster than the Q4 run. This run also secured the overall TQ with two first and two second places. Qualification Round 5 In the last one we made some changes on the car to test, and again he tested with front cab body, but again he was not pleased with the setup and finished 2nd
Semi. With risk for rain under the finals David chose to drive the 20 minutes semi final with Impact SS tires. David started as car one and never looked back when he started to build the gap to the other cars for his chase after start position 1 on the main final. It did not happen so much under the this final and David drove in as winner 18 sec before the second car. Directly after the semi A it started to rain so we were lucky.
Main. Normaly is driven in 60 minutes, and it was the same for this race. Before the race we had to desire which tank strategy we had to go with. 10.10 pitting was no problem, but we desired to go safe on 8.36 as it was no meaning to take any risks IF nothing happens before the first refueling.
The track was dry again after the semi B but the weather forecast said more rain so this made the compound tire decision difficult, but just before the start David selected the soft compound as he was sure that the rain would be delayed and the SS compound could be to soft after a while.
David got a good start and started to build up some distance to the rest of the cars directly, and it continued for 59 minutes. After 45 to 50 minutes he had contact and lapped Christoffer who was 2nd in the race. Just before the finish line he stopped to get Christoffer closer to try to get exactly the same finish time, but Christoffer also stopped. So after 60 minutes he passed the finish line one lap before the second car as back to back winner of the Swedish Nationals.
